Beacons can be as wide as cities (e.g. the Seattle beacon) or as narrow as a small library. Discussions posted on beacons can be upvoted and the most popular discussions are shown higher.

Patook is foremost a friendship making service and nearly all interactions within the site are tailored towards making users get to know the people around them better while remaining safe. This includes a powerful point system which allows users to assign points to other user traits (for example, if they play the piano or like to ski).
